A WORLD OF MEETINGS
For children age 9 to 14 – school and Families

The ample mosaic of human experience encountered, observed, photographed by Steve McCurry in his journeys in the Southern and Eastern parts of the world is presented as a gathering experience. A world of gathering. Meeting with others, with other cultures, with other childhoods. Pain, joy, solitude, beauty.... in a game of looks. Eyes that meet eyes seen through the eyes of one who has been able to see what had to be seen.
Young people will be introduced to the exhibition by a prologue that will inflect the themes of the exhibition into a poetic text: Portraits, Silence, War, Joy, Childhood, Beauty creating the necessary conditions to "enter" the world of meetings that the light and the color of the photos offer, for a "journey" inside the photographic tale that the striking photographic collection, in which photos are not exhibited in the traditional frontal relationship, but – as if light and suspended in the air - come to meet the visitor, offering him faces and scenery.
To enter this photographic tale, each participant will be offered a sort of "journey log" where, besides the memory of the itinerary corresponding to the sections of the exhibition, they will be able to create, during the exhibition and afterwards, a real map of encounters, a "map of the heart", in which they can jot down impressions, feelings and thoughts that each encounter may have inspired.
Teachers escorting their classes will be offered specially prepared materials. The proposal will be adjusted to accommodate different age groups.
Having in mind McCurry’s dedication to the children of the world, the event will symbolically begin on the 20th of November, the 20th anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child and will continue upon booking for the entire period of the exhibition.
As part of the manifestations for the Rights of the Child, in the afternoons of Friday the 20th and Saturday the 21st and from the 23rd to the 27th of November at 5.00 pm participation will be reserved for children accompanied by their families.
